Groundhogs, Presidents, and Candy Hearts- Oh My…..

There’s a lot going on in February. Let’s dig in, shall we? Did you know that February 2nd is traditionally a national holiday in the United States and Canada? February 2nd is the mid-point between one season (winter) and another (spring). It’s also known as Groundhog Day. According to folklore, if it’s cloudy when the groundhog emerges from his burrow on that day, then spring will come early. However, if it’s sunny, the groundhog will see his shadow, retreat back into the burrow, and the winter weather will last for six more weeks.

Happy Birthday Mr. President. The 3rd Monday of every February is celebrated as President’s Day, remembering all the presidents of the United States through the years. However, it actually originated as a day to celebrate George Washington who was born on February 22, 1732, and Abraham Lincoln who was born on February 12, 1809. George Washington led the continental army to victory in the American Revolutionary War and was the 1st president of the United States. Abraham Lincoln led the nation through the American Civil War and was the 16th president of the United States.

Now, in between Groundhog Day and President’s Day, is another special day to tell those close to you like your family, friends, and teachers, just how much you love them. Can you guess what day that is? It’s February 14th; also known as Valentine’s Day, where folks might exchange cards, flowers, candy hearts, or just simple good wishes to those special to them.

Well, enough of that. Let’s have some fun now. Head on over to the Creative Page and you might just find some activities to celebrate groundhogs, presidents, and your loved ones. Enjoy!
